Bridlington Pump Station

HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Hanson UK has been highly commended at the 2015 Concrete Society Awards for its involvement in the redevelopment of Bridlington Pump Station in Yorkshire, UK.

The project, which used multiple specialist concretes supplied by Hanson UK to achieve high-strength, durability, and withstand the challenging conditions of a sandy location – adjacent to two EU-designated Blue Flag beaches, was one of just five others to receive the prestigious award.

The pump station was recognised for the versatility of its concrete, how it was used to support the community environmentally as well as ensure that all visible concrete integrates with the architecture of a nearby Victorian Spa.

“The colour choice and the design mix for the range of concretes used for the project, from the sequential piling and self-compacting concrete to the concrete used for the external finish, are very good,” the judges said. “The external finish was finished carefully, with clean lines and excellent colour consistency.”
