In March 2013, a new Aloft hotel was opened in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur. The Aloft KL Sentral hotel aims to be the hippest and trendiest place in Kuala Lumpur. The hotel, which is located in one of Kuala Lumpur’s new business centres, wants to attract especially young people with stylish rooms at more affordable prices than those of other luxury hotels such as the Hilton or Le Meridien.

The Aloft KL Sentral was built with concrete exclusively supplied by HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Hanson Malaysia starting in 2011. That such a large project has only one supplier for ready-mixed concrete is quite unusual in Malaysia. Around 50,000 cubic metres of concrete were needed for construction of the 30-storey building. With its 482 rooms, this is the biggest of the more than 60 Aloft hotels all over the world.

A special challenge for Hanson Malaysia was the continuous pour of around 3,000 cubic metres of concrete for the foundations of the hotel, which required superb coordination of the supplying ready-mixed concrete trucks. The foundations were laid not only for the hotel but also for Kuala Lumpur Sentral Office Towers, which were built simultaneously beside the hotel and formed part of the mixed development project.
