Dorset County Council
Dorset Highways Public Private Partnership
General Scope:
Hanson Contracting carries out carriageway resurfacing and highway maintenance schemes in partnership with Dorset Works Organisation.
Following award in 2002 the parties established a partnership steering board and set of aligned objectives for the partnership. This commitment to work in partnership was cemented in 2003 with the signing of a formal partnering charter at the House of Lords.
Early Contractor Involvement between all parties on the major schemes element of the scope of work has resulted in considerable benefits in cost and time. Hanson has worked with Dorset County Council through the condition surveys and structural maintenance team meetings to ensure programme and strategy issues are achieved wherever possible. This has resulted in reduced management and supervision costs on all of the schemes procured through the Partnership.
Reciprocal working has been a key feature of the partnership with Hanson utilising Dorset Works Organisations sign shop, vehicle workshops, grounds maintenance and highway maintenance departments.
