Ridge ventilation system

Dry fix ridge systems and roof ventilation products are available to complement the different patterns of the standard range.

Roofing solutions
The increased use of roof insulation materials have resulted in large quantities of moisture laden air migrating into the roof space from the building below. Without adequate ventilation to remove this moisture laden air, condensation will occur so shortening the life of the timbers and reducing the effectiveness of thermal insulation.

The simple remedy is to provide a sufficient volume of air moving through the roof space to remove the moisture laden air before it condenses. Natural ventilation from eaves to ridge is the most effective method of controlling roof space condensation.

The Hanson Red Bank® range of ventilating ridge tiles is compatible with most ridge profiles that are currently made by the company.

They can be supplied in the three standard colours; red terracotta, buff fireclay and slate bodymix. Hanson Red Bank® also offer the unique facility of being able to blend with the colour of any proprietary roof tile including naturally fired colours.

Ventilation
The ridge of a roof is often in a negative pressure area, irrespective of wind direction and speed. As a result air will always be expelled from the roof space.

BS5250:1989 Control of Condensation recognises this fact in its recommendation
but states:

“Where high level ventilation (e.g. at the ridge) is recommended, this is in addition to any low level requirement. High level ventilation should never be used on its own as the suction effect created will increase water vapour transfer into the roof void.”

Ridge ventilation must always be used in conjunction with eaves ventilation.

Hanson Red Bank® ventilating ridge tiles
  • All ventilating ridge tiles are 450mm in length and are suitable for use as roof space ventilation, soil pipe and mechanical extraction terminals
  • The ventilating ridge tiles match the ridge line exactly both of round, angle and ornamental ridges allowing a continuous roof line with no upstand against neighbouring ridges
  • The ventilating ridge tiles are driving rain performance tested to minimise water ingress into the roof space and provide an air path from the roof void to the outside
  • The ventilating ridge tiles are individually packed in boxes with polystyrene block ends to protect the unit during transportation and facilitate handling and storage
