Hanson Abrasives has been a major manufacturer of expendable abrasives for many years.
Most of the material produced is sold to a large UK based wholesaler of abrasives who markets and distributes the products to nearly all parts of the UK. Applications range from the shot blasting of metallic structures to the cleaning of masonry.

Production
A number of raw material sources are involved in the production abrasives but all are slag streams produced by metal refining. Iron blastfurnace slags provide masonry abrasives whilst slags from copper production and foundry operations are used to provide harder materials more suited to shot blasting metals. These latter slags also provide the very hard substances needed for abrasion resistant flooring. The manufacturing process consists of drying the selected raw material, crushing to the particle size distribution required and packing it in the specified size and type of bag.
