In response to demand from the trade and after a period of extensive development, we are proud to announce the new Hanson Slot Block. Providing many advantages over traditional solid or hollow format masonry blocks, it’s available in several widths. With special vertical slots to improve and strengthen the mortar bond, the Hanson Slot Block wall panel shear capacity is particularly suited to the construction of laterally loaded walls.
The Hanson Slot Block, as you would expect of any Hanson branded product, provides a high level of technical performance, perfect for use in a wide range of commercial, educational and leisure projects.
What’s different?
• Unique slots designed to improve the bond with the mortar, aiding in-blockwork
panel flexural and shear strength
• Improved bond strength to minimise shrinkage and expansion movement, reducing
the need for anti-crack reinforcement
• End groove to aid handling and laying of blocks
• Approximately 10 per cent lighter than solid blocks of an equivalent density
What can I use it for?
The Hanson Slot Block is intended for the construction of non-load bearing walls and load-bearing walls. They are particularly suitable for use as masonry infill panels in commercial buildings, schools and infrastrucure contracts.
What does it look like?
The Hanson Slot Block is medium to dark grey in colour and has a close textured surface that is ideal for direct decoration. Hanson Slot Block is a Group I masonry unit (void content < 25 per cent) as described in EN 771-3. Its features include a series of vertical slots and vertical end grooves.
How big is it?
• Face size dimensions: 440mm x 215mm
• Block widths: 100, 140, 190 and 215mm
• Blocks are manufactured to comply with
• Tolerance Category D1 of EN 771-3

Design
The design of loadbearing and non-loadbearing walls should be in accordance with the recommendations of BS 5628-1 and 3, and the relevant requirements of Building Regulations.
Installation The construction of walls should be in accordance with BS 5628-1 & 3. For use above DPC, Hanson Slot Blocks should be laid using mortar designation (iii) mixes. For use below DPC level, mortar designations (ii) or (iii) can be used below depending on the risk of freezing/saturation (refer to BS 5628-3 for guidance).
Environmental performance
Hanson Slot Block is manufactured under an ISO 14001 compliant Environmental Management System that is independently certified by BSI.
