Future water strategy

What is it?

The ‘Future Water' legislation was enforced by the Government in October 2008. Homeowners whom want to pave over their driveway with a non permeable surface such as tarmac or concrete will be required to obtain planning permission.

Homeowners have an alternative so meaning planning permission is not required. The alternative is to use a permeable surface. Permeable block paving or gravel are examples of permeable surfaces.

Why is the government enforcing this?

Surface run off has a great impact in a flood situation. Our gardens absorb up to 10 litres of rainwater per minute. When gardens are paved over, the water has nowhere to go and runs into drains. With the drain already at full capacity this then causes flooding.

Formpave’s Aquaflow® permeable block paving

Formpave's market leading Aquaflow® permeable block paving and SUDS system is an excellent solution to the new ‘Future Water' strategy.  Formpave provides a complete permeable system.
