FORMPAVE® AQUAFLOW® Provides SUDS Solution at Craigmillar, Edinburgh
Hanson FORMPAVE has installed 5,000m2 of the first quota of AQUAFLOW permeable block paving and SUDS solution to Edinburgh City Council. Edinburgh City Council requires AQUAFLOW permeable block paving and SUDS solution for use in a large regeneration development at Craigmillar. Since the completion of the first phase, developers have noted a significant increase in consumer desire and interest for housing in this area.
A 15 year urban regeneration programme is currently underway at Craigmillar to radically enhance and renew the area for the local population. Landscape, architecture and sustainability are at the core of the development with a huge emphasis on reducing the impact on the environment. Hanson FORMPAVE has recently supplied 5,000m2 of the exclusive and environmentally friendly permeable paving and SUDS solution AQUAFLOW to the development. AQUAFLOW was chosen for Craigmillar by the local authority as a sustainable solution to managing surface water issues. A further 20,000m2 is scheduled to be laid during the next phases.
Criagmillar is a pioneering adoptable development in Scotland that is leading the way in sustainable and environmental development. AQUAFLOW permeable block paving passed all the stringent checks and criteria for road adoption. Edinburgh City Council are the first local authority in Scotland to adopt a permeable paved road system.
AQUAFLOW permeable block paving is a highly reliable and sustainable paving system that offered a SUDS solution to comply with SEPA requirements.
AQUAFLOW permeable paving effectively distributes water around the site eliminating the need to use ponds or wetlands or other space consuming SUDS solutions within the development.
Through extensive research during the design phase Craigmiller found AQUAFLOW is the best SUDS and longest established permeable paving solution on the market. Since the installation it has performed extremely well. Craigmiller also insisted that the supplier was a well established and had experience in permeable paving.
AQUAFLOW is an ideal permeable paving solution for this type of high profile development. The colour palate and workable, maintainable surface generates an attractive finish that satisfied Edinburgh City Council’s criteria.
SEPA requirements for two-stage treatment:
- Pollutant removal and volume attenuation of all surface run-off water (from permeable and non-permeable areas)
- Single stage treatment, volume attenuation for roof water.
SEPA stipulates that the costs of construction must be no greater than that of traditional drainage systems. All requirements are met by the Hanson FORMPAVE system and enables SEPA to confidently FORMPAVE as a permeable paving supply for projects requiring their approval.
