Bath stone has been used as a building material since Roman times. Both John Wood and Beau Nash used the material to develop the classic Georgian city of Bath.
Located just outside Bath, the Hartham Park underground quarry covers eight square miles. Parts of the quarry were requisitioned by the Ministry of Defence in the Second World War to provide a storage facility for the Royal Navy. Now the operation is enjoying a new lease of life as 21st century techniques ensure a steady supply of excellent Bathstone.
