Hanson Aggregate Marine is Europe's largest producer of marine-dredged sand and gravel, supplying to a network of wharves in the UK, Holland, Belgium and France.
Our fleet of nine dredgers supplies more than 30 outlets around Britain and in mainland Europe from Amsterdam to Le Havre. Of the eight million tonnes dredged annually, about 10 per cent is supplied to Hanson wharves in Britain, with 40 per cent to external UK customers. Significant volumes - some 50 per cent of sales - is supplied to major contracted outlets and to other wharves in Belgium, Holland and France.
Hanson operates a well-balanced fleet of purpose-built trailing suction dredgers, which vary in size from 1,300 to 5,500 gross tonnes and are designed to extract sand and gravel from the seabed at depths of up to 50 metres.
Cargoes are dredged from government-licensed areas 24 hours a day 365 days a year. All vessels are fitted with self-discharging systems which can deliver dry material onto wharves at rates of 600 – 2,600 tonnes per hour. We also have hydraulic discharge and bottom dump facilities.
Hanson's marine division was launched in 1968 with the merger of five dredging companies into the Amey Group. Acquisitions that followed included Westminster Gravels in 1982, Holms Sand Gravel in 1986, and Civil & Marine's dredging arm in 1995.
