Crushed rock

Hanson's quarries supply crushed rock (mainly limestone, granite and basalt) for a variety of construction uses. We produce everything from low-grade fill materials through to single-sized clean stone for use in added-value products such as ready-mixed concrete and asphalt.

Our strategic network of quarries is supported by a network of wharves and rail-linked depots to ensure we can supply contracts of any size.

Specialist products

We also offer an extensive range of specialist products including hardstones for road surfacing, boulders for sea defence work and flood prevention, and powdered limestones for agricultural and industrial use. 

Distribution 

We use road, rail and water to distribute our products. Our core road fleet of 1,200 liveried trucks is operated principally by self-employed owner-drivers under a franchise scheme. 

We are one of the country’s largest users of rail freight, moving over 2.5 million tones of stone a year from seven rail-connected loading points to 16 distribution depots. We have our fleet of locomotives and wagons operated by Mendip Rail Limited, a joint venture company formed to manage aggregates distribution by rail.

We also use sea transport to link offshore quarries with the major markets via our network of wharves. Barges are used to supply production facilities alongside the River Thames.
