Liquefied natural gas tanks

Hanson supplied a total of 62,000 cubic metres of specialist concrete from two on-site batching plants during the construction of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks at Milford Haven.

During the construction of the tanks, over 13,400 cubic metres of concrete were continously poured, setting a UK record.

  • Slip form technique used in the tanks was the first of its kind in the UK
  • The walls climbed at around 2.2 metres a day to a final height of just over 30 metres to a final height of just over 30 metres

Marine-dredged and land-won aggregates were supplied from our own quarries and wharves.  And the use of GGBS as a cement replacement saved more than 7,500 tonnes of C02 emissions
