Environmentally friendly transport

Concrete manufacture a haulier activity
Much of Betongindustri’s activities involve transporting large quantities of aggregate and cement to our factories, but also ready-made concrete to construction sites for in-situ casting. Consequently, the transport issues are constantly in focus.

Fewer miles on the road
Proximity to the customer is one way to reduce our transports. With 32 factories around the country, mixing concrete close to the construction site is almost always possible. Fewer miles on the road has great environmental benefits. Furthermore, we have invested in trucks that carry large quantities, so we can limit the number of journeys.

Maritime transport instead of truck
Two of Betongindustri’s seven factories in the Stockholm area are situated centrally in the harbour area. That is no coincidence. The quarries are also close to rivers, so aggregate can be transported by boats, which consume only a quarter of the energy that a truck would use for the corresponding distance.

A barge’s load is as much as 100 trucks. Trucks are not needed for unloading either. Gravel barges unload via an encapsulated conveyer belt in the harbour. This has the capacity to transport several hundred tons of aggregate per hour from quay to factory.
