Sustainability

Sustainable Development is a relatively new term, which is increasingly coming into general use in the big business world.

Sustainable Development implies meeting the current business needs combined with community and environmental involvement and is focused on considering the needs of and opportunities for the future generations.

The Sustainable Development Process rests upon three main components – economic development, social welfare and environmental protection.

This is one of the topmost business strategies of HeidelbergCement being an integral component to our success.

HeidelbergCement has joined the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and supported the Cement Sustainability Initiative of cement producers.

Six Key Streamlines have been defined, which the Initiative Participants consider the main directions to contribute to the sustainability of society. These include:

  • Climate Protection
  • Fuel and Raw Materials
  • Employee Health and Safety
  • Reduction of Atmospheric Emissions
  • Local Community Involvement
  • Internal Business Processes

“The fundamental principle of Sustainable Development stands for continued satisfaction of the current needs and, at the same time, ensuring the best future for our Planet and people inhabiting it for the centuries and millennia to come. Today, cement is one of the world’s principal construction material, the key component of concrete, which is the second most frequent material used worldwide. Importance of the Cement Industry for Sustainable Development increases as the population of the Earth grows intensively”, - says Andreas Kern, a Member of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Director for Europe and Central Asia region.

HeidelbergCement follows its General Corporate Sustainable Development Policy in Kazakhstan just like in any country where it operates.
