Aggregates
Aggregates - crushed rock, sand and gravel - are essential to the development of the modern world. If you are in a building, they are sheltering you. If you travel by road or railway, they are beneath you.

Every day we rely on aggregates in some form. Mixed with cement and water they become ready-mixed or precast concrete products. Mixed with bitumen (an oil product) they create asphalt. Our products are also used to make steel and glass and to remove sulphur from power station gases. Hanson is one of the world's largest aggregates producers. We produce over 230 million tonnes of aggregates every year from more than 450 quarries in the UK, North America, Australia, Asia Pacific and Continental Europe.

Asphalt
Asphalt is an essential and versatile material which provides smooth and durable driving surfaces on roads. The mixtures can be varied to provide different grades and types of asphalt suitable for the diverse needs of the built environment - from airport runways to drives and tennis courts. It can even be coloured and used to denote cycle lanes.Worldwide we produce over 12 million tonnes of asphalt a year.

Concrete products
Concrete products come in a variety of shapes and forms. Our concrete drainage pipes underlay some of the busiest airports, highways and railways in the world, taking rain water away, and keeping us on the move. They also form a hidden but complex underground labyrinth of sewers and clean water supply systems beneath our cities and towns.

We produce concrete roofing tiles in diverse colours, sizes and styles all of which are continuously evaluated to ensure they meet the demands of homeowners, builders and architects.

We produce a variety of precast concrete products including manholes, drainage structures, box culverts, bridge components, retaining walls and concrete blocks and floors.

Bricks
Bricks are one of the oldest and most traditional of all building materials and form the fabric of our communities. They help build our homes, schools, hospitals and shopping centres.

Bricks are weather resistant, fireproof and resilient - buildings built hundreds of years ago are still standing today. They are also energy efficient. In summer, they slowly absorb heat from the sun and keep your home cooler. In winter, the bricks hold the house's heat longer, keeping you warmer. Bricks never need to be painted and never rot.

Last year we produced more than two billion bricks at over 35 plants in the UK, the USA and Canada.

Ready-mixed concrete
Concrete is one of the world's most versatile and durable construction materials. Every major construction project from tunnels and bridges to offices and schools uses concrete in one form or another in a variety of structures.

Ready-mixed concrete is made from a carefully balanced mixture of aggregates, cement and water. We also make ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) - a by-product of the steel industry - which can be used to replace some of the cement content in concrete.

Hanson is one of the largest producers of ready-mixed concrete in the world. Last year we produced over 25 million cubic metres from more than 650 sites in 10 different countries.
