Our business

Hanson’s principal operations are in the UK, North America and Australia.

UK
Hanson UK is split into four business lines – aggregates and asphalt, concrete, building products and cementitious - which together operate over 400 manufacturing sites and employ more than 9,000 people. The aggregates and asphalt division includes a national contracting business specialising in road surfacing and infrastructure work.

The cementitious division combines Castle Cement, a leading producer of Portland cement, and Civil and Marine, which makes ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) – a cement replacement in ready-mixed and precast concrete. Our building products division includes the lightweight blocks business Thermalite, block paving manufacturer Formpave, building systems manufacturer Structherm and Irvine Whitlock, a specialist brick and block laying contractor.

North America
In North America we operate as Lehigh Hanson with more than 800 production sites. The organisation is split into five business lines. Four of them - cementitious, aggregates, asphalt and ready-mixed concrete - operate in regional markets (north, south, west and Canada); the fifth - building products - has a regional market for concrete pipes and precast concrete and a national market for bricks, tiles and pavers.

Australia
Hanson Australia operates over 240 ready-mixed concrete plants and 60 aggregate quarries and produces a range of landscaping and building products including pre-formed concrete, masonry block and paving, segmental retaining walls and environmental and erosion control solutions. It also has three plants in the Sydney metropolitan area supplying structural and architectural precast panels, hollowcore floor and wall panels, beams and columns.

Hanson’s manufacturing sites in continental Europe (Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Israel) and Asia Pacific (Malaysia, Greater China and Singapore) have been integrated into HeidelbergCement’s regional operations.
