Committed to species conservation

The UN Conference on the international convention for the preservation of biological diversity met in Bonn from 19 to 30 May 2008. As a partner in the efforts to conserve natural resources for future generations, the business world was involved for the first time. In a joint leadership declaration of the Business and Biodiversity Initiative, the participating companies made a commitment to far-reaching activities with the aim of placing special emphasis on the protection of biodiversity in their corporate policies.

HeidelbergCement was represented in Bonn as a partner of the initiative and took a pioneering role within the industry with its commitment to the topic of biological diversity. "We want to make the most of the great opportunities we have to increase species diversity", said the Chairman of the Managing Board Dr. Bernd Scheifele. "We have set up an international team in Brussels to implement our biodiversity activities within the Group. At the same time, we are formulating a Group-wide guideline for recultivation and biodiversity, which will be used in pilot projects."
