Climate protection: reduction target reached ahead of schedule
In the area of climate protection, the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) is a central issue for HeidelbergCement. Since 2002, we have collected data on the CO2 emissions throughout the Group and have made a commitment to reducing our specific net CO2 emissions by 15%, compared with 1990, by 2010. By increasing our energy efficiency, modernising our plants and extending our use of alternative fuels such as biomass, we achieved this goal as early as 2007 – with a reduction of around 16%.
