HeidelbergCement plant in Russia awarded

Recently the Russian cement company Cesla, a subsidiary of HeidelbergCement in the St. Petersburg region, received a Golden Galaxy Award 2006. With this award the American-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry acknowledges the progressive management and successful restructuring of the Cesla cement plant.

This award was established by the American-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2001 to promote international trade and investment and acknowledge the individuals and enterprises demonstrating exceptional achievement in the areas of international cooperation, technology transfer, efficient use of natural resources and sustainable development.

Since the acquisition of Cesla in 2001, HeidelbergCement has continuously improved and modernized the plant to reach European standards regarding productivity, product quality and environmental protection. The latest investment was announced in September this year: Cesla intends to construct a new production line, which will increase the plant’s annual production capacity from 800,000 tonnes to 2 million tonnes of cement. This investment will create 800 new jobs in the area.
