In 1999, HeidelbergCement acquired its operations in Sweden, and is market leader in the cement business there and one of the leaders in the concrete business. The Swedish companies produce cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates, concrete products, and alternative fuels.

The market
Our subsidiary Cementa is the only cement producer in Sweden with plants in Slite and Degerhamn – both on islands outside the southeast coast – and Skövde in the southern part of Sweden. Our companies in the ready-mixed concrete, prefabricated concrete products, and aggregates sectors have leading market positions in Sweden. While the aggregates and prefabricated concrete products plants are mainly located in the South of the country, the network of our ready-mixed concrete plants also stretches further north.
In Sweden , construction activity recovered significantly during 2011. Pleasing growth in cement consumption was achieved. Deliveries of aggregates increased by a double-digit percentage. In 2011, we purchased the aggregates company Ledinge Fastighets AB in the northeast of Stockholm, which has substantial raw material deposits, mining concessions for thirty years, and production facilities for sand, gravel, hard rock, and earth. In Malmö, a new cement terminal was opened in the first quarter of 2012 so that we can supply the relevant market more efficiently.
