Germany is the homeland of HeidelbergCement, where the company was founded in 1873 in Heidelberg. Until the end of the 1960s, the company operated exclusively in the south of Germany.
HeidelbergCement is market leader in the cement business in Germany. Apart from cement, aggregates, and ready-mixed concrete, HeidelbergCement also produces concrete products, lime, and sand-lime bricks in Germany.

In Germany, HeidelbergCement operates 8 cement plants and 4 grinding plants. They are located mainly in the south and northwest of the country. In addition, a grinding plant is located in the area of the capital Berlin. In the aggregates business line, we operate an extensive network of sand, gravel, and crushed stone pits. The concrete-service-other business line includes the production of ready-mixed concrete, precast concrete elements, paving stones, and concrete blocks. A wide network of production sites guarantees a quick market supply all over the country. In the building products business line, HeidelbergCement operates production sites for sand-lime bricks and lime.
In Germany, construction investments rose in 2011 by 5.4% in comparison with the previous year, and thus by a significantly higher margin than gross domestic product. A real economic boom in Germany resulted in an increase of 13% in cement consumption. At our plant in Hanover, Germany, we are investing in the construction of a new blending silo to improve our competitiveness.
