The market
HeidelbergCement maintains a very strong position in Western Canada with two modern cement plants, extensive aggregate deposits and many ready-mixed concrete plants. The production facilities are primarily located in the two westernmost provinces, British Columbia and Alberta. Some additional facilities are located in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Most plants are well-positioned in high population areas. Strategically located cement distribution terminals meet customer demand throughout our market area. There are more than 20 major aggregate quarries and deposits in areas immediately adjacent to the major population centers, making us the major supplier of aggregates in the markets in which we operate. Our main ready-mixed concrete companies are the technological leaders in the market.
Western Canada has seen a solid upward trend in economic activity and growth in the construction market. Western Canada’s abundant natural resources form the basis of much of the economy, with energy, forestry, petrochemicals and agriculture in the forefront.
