Overview
In November 2005, HeidelbergCement signed an agreement for the purchase of 100% of the shares in the Kazakh Bukhtarma Cement Company (BCC), one of the leading cement producers in Kazakhstan. BCC operates a cement plant in the northeast of Kazakhstan, 100 kilometres south of the town of Ust-Kamenogorsk. Bukhtarma Cement Company sells its production under "Vostok Cement" trade mark. "Vostok Cement" trade mark has a reputation of the most high-quality cement in Kazakhstan. Currently we are extending our production capacity by building a new plant in Shetpe near Aktau on the Caspian Sea with an annual capacity of 2 million tonnes of cement.

HeidelbergCement benefits from the country’s fast growing construction activity. Infrastructure and large construction projects are being planned; therefore, cement consumption will increase significantly in the coming years as well. The Bukhtarma cement plant supplies the whole Kazakh market via four terminals. The new plant in Shetpe will supply the boom region on the Caspian Sea as well as neighbouring markets in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan.
