Belgium has a per capita cement consumption of approximately 580 kg per year, one of the highest in the world. Apart from various types of grey cement, produced in the Lixhe, Antoing and Ghent plants, our subsidiary CBR is also the sole supplier in Benelux of white cement, manufactured in the Harmignies plant. White cement is especially valued for bright coloured facades and works of art.
Our subsidiary ENCI is the sole cement producer in the Netherlands. It manufactures different types of grey cement. Its plants are strategically located in Maastricht, Rotterdam and IJmuiden.
Nearly 75% of the cement produced in Benelux is blended cement, i.e. with a low clinker content. Moreover, the use of alternative fuels is very well integrated in the production process: 86% of fuel needs are covered by alternative fuels in Dutch kilns and approx. 52% in the Belgian ones.
