Overview

HeidelbergCement began its activities in Ukraine in 2001, with the acquisition of a majority stake in the Kryvyi Rih cement plant, Kryvyi Rih, followed by the acquisition of the Dniprocement plant, Dniprodzerzhinsk, in 2002. The latest acquisition of Doncement, Amvrosiyivka, at the end of 2005 significantly strengthened HeidelbergCement’s position in the Ukrainian market. The two cement plants and two grinding plants have been combined to form the Public Joint Stock Company "HeidelbergCement Ukraine".

The market

Due to its size, strong economic growth, and rising cement consumption, the Ukraine is an extremely promising market for us. In 2011, there was a significant rise in cement consumption in the Ukraine (11%) in connection with construction activity for the European Football Championship.

The cement plants at Kryvyi Rih and Dniprodzerzhinsk produce cement using the modern dry process and specialise in producing Portland cement and Portland blast-furnace slag cement, both bulk and bagged. Both plants are located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, one of the largest industrial regions of the Ukraine, southwest of Kiev. The Amvrosiyivka plant operates a wet kiln and produces Portland and slag cements. The plant is located in the Donetsk industrial region in the eastern Ukraine.

In addition to the cement business HeidelbergCement operates two aggregates pits and three ready-mixed concrete plants.
