In Africa, HeidelbergCement only produces cement. Our plants are located in eight sub-Saharan countries: In West Africa, we have operations in Benin, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo; in Central Africa, we operate plants in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Gabon and in East Africa, we have a plant in Tanzania. We are the market leader in most of these growth countries and will expand our production capacities further over the next few years.
The Mediterranean Basin includes Spain and Israel, where HeidelbergCement primarily produces aggregates and ready-mixed concrete. In Turkey, the joint venture Akçansa is one of the country's leading cement manufacturers; it also has a dense network of ready-mixed concrete production sites and manufactures aggregates.
