Education
Dr. Bernd Scheifele was born on 5 May 1958 in Freiburg. He studied law at the Universities of Freiburg and Dijon. Following the First State Exam, he received a Fulbright scholarship for United States and completed the Master’s Degree Program with Master of Laws (LLM) in 1984.

Professional Career
After the Second State Exam, Dr. Scheifele worked with the renowned law firm Gleiss Lutz Hootz Hirsch at its headquarters in Stuttgart from 1988 to 1994. In his function as attorney he prepared the incorporation of Phoenix Pharmahandel AG & Co KG, Mannheim/Germany. On 1 October 1994, he was appointed Chairman of Phoenix. As of 1 February 2005, Dr. Scheifele has been Chairman of the Managing Board of HeidelbergCement. Dr. Scheifele is also Chairman of the supervisory boards of PHOENIX Pharmahandel AG & Co KG and Tamro Group, Vantaa/Finland, Deputy Chairman of the supervisory board of Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group and member of the board of directors of Helaba (Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen).
