HeidelbergCement began its activities in Ukraine in 2001, with the acquisition of a majority stake in the Kryvyi Rih cement plant, followed by the acquisition of the Dniprocement plant, Dniprodzerzhinsk, in 2002. The latest acquisition of Doncement, Amvrosiyivka, at the end of 2005 significantly strengthened HeidelbergCement’s position in the Ukrainian market. The three cement companies have been combined to form the Public Joint Stock Company HeidelbergCement Ukraine.

The cement plant at Kryvyi Rih produces cement using the modern dry process and specialises in producing Portland cement and Portland blast-furnace slag cement. The plant is located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, one of the largest industrial regions of the Ukraine. The Amvrosiyivka plant operates wet kilns and produces Portland and slag cements. The plant is located in the Donetsk industrial region in the eastern Ukraine.

In addition to the cement business HeidelbergCement operates two aggregates pits and three ready-mixed concrete plants.
