The Stockholm Bypass is one of Sweden’s biggest-ever infrastructure projects. It will connect the northern and southern parts of the region to ease congestion in the city centre and reduce the burden on Stockholm’s traffic system. Most of the bypass – more than 18 of 21 kilometres – will be built underground.

HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Betongindustri has signed an agreement to deliver 110,000 cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete for the Stockholm Bypass.

The deliveries, which consist mostly of shotcrete, a special quick hardening concrete mix used to line tunnels and provide the necessary stability, will be used in stage FSE 209 for main tunnels in Skärholmen, south west of Stockholm, and will start immediately.

Construction started in 2015 and it will continue for approximately another eight years.
