Mathematikon Heidelberg

The landscape architects from faktorgruen arrayed the large-format cement slabs in front of the Mathematikon (Mathematical Faculty of the University of Heidelberg) in such a way that the plaza resembles a gigantic barcode.

The slabs are laid in two different grey tones on a bed of material supplied by Heidelberger Sand und Kies GmbH, with a specially formulated grading curve and a minimum of fine particles. Together with the robust concrete slabs, this will help the pavement stand up to the heavy day-to-day use of the plaza. HeidelbergCement delivered 55,000 m3 of concrete for the building, as well as 7,210 m2 of concrete slabs.
