Hotel IZB Residence, Campus-Tower
One of the most visible landmarks greeting visitors to the campus of the Innovation and Startup Center for Biotechnology (IZB) in Martinsried, Germany, is the IZB Residence.
The building offers guests of the university temporary accommodation and – with the Faculty Club on the top floor – researchers have a space to exchange views and ideas.
The reinforced concrete structure sports a white aluminium cladding. The massive cores, pillars, and ceilings are all made of ready-mixed concrete from Heidelberger Beton, poured and moulded on site. To maintain the level of fineness required and to achieve the premium fair-faced concrete quality SB4, the fibre-reinforced cardboard formwork was covered with a special film. The quality is, if nothing else, also due to Heidelberger Beton's many years of experience of working with white concrete and fair-faced cement.
