Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies

The opening of the University of Tasmania's AUD 45 million Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) headquarters cements Tasmania's reputation as a global leader in research and teaching.

The five-star Green Star-rated building will house 290 staff and students, five purpose-built, state-of-the-art laboratories, a 92-seat waterfront lecture theatre, and a public exhibition area. HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Lehigh Hanson delivered 3000 m3 of 40 and 50 MPa Green Star post-stressed concrete. Green concrete satisfies all the requirements of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) Green Star rating system.
