Bodentank, Frankfurter Flughafen

Frankfurt International Airport

HeidelbergCement was involved in the construction of the infrastructure connecting Frankfurt International Airport's new Terminal 3 with the rest of the terminals and facilities. At any airport, so-called 'supply channels' are key to logistics on the ground, ensuring operational continuity and guaranteeing safety and security on the runways.

Due to high traffic intensity, weather conditions, high temperatures, and the enormous weight and pressure from landing planes, the signal surface of the runway had to be covered with extremely robust and durable concrete. Furthermore, the signal markings had to be stable and long lasting, to ensure maximum safety and minimise maintenance costs.

Heidelberger Beton met these high demands on the building materials with coloured concrete, a new technology combining the strength of concrete with the aesthetic qualities of other materials.
