3rd Bosphorus Bridge
As the leading building materials company in Turkey, Akçansa has added construction of the third bridge across the Bosphorus (Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge) in Istanbul to its portfolio of significant projects.
Akçansa produced special concrete and cement for the longest reinforced concrete bridge in Turkey, which is the widest suspension bridge in the world with a width of 59 metres and with a main span of 1,408 metre the longest railway bridge worldwide. Furthermore it is the suspension bridge with the highest tower (322 metre) in the world.
Construction of the bridge started on 29 May 2013. A total of 720,000 cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete were used up: 290,000 cubic metres for the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge Project and 430,000 cubic metres for the North Marmara Highway. This outstanding engineering work was completed within the short period of 1.5 years, with “0” accidents and in line with Health & Safety goals. The cement produced by Akçansa for the third bridge over the Bosphorus is resistant against all kinds of physical and chemical action, and will allow the concrete to last for the anticipated lifespan of more than 100 years.
