Atletico Madrid Stadium

The football club Atletico Madrid has chosen HeidelbergCement’s Spanish subsidiary FYM for its latest building project.

The Olympic stadium in Madrid, known as “La Peineta”, was a multiuse stadium until 2013 – when Atletico Madrid decided to buy it and make it the team’s new stadium, replacing the Vicente Calderon stadium.

For this purpose, Atletico Madrid commissioned Cruz and Ortiz Architects to design a spectacular building, emphasizing comfort, safety, and visibility for visitors and fans.

The building required new structural elements to reinforce the existing structure. For this purpose, the project leaders decided to use i.tech ULTRA 52.5 R/SR for the micropiles supporting the foundation.

i.tech ULTRA 52.5 R/SR is a cement with outstanding mechanical proprieties and a specific resistance to chemical attack, especially from sulfates, and, thanks to its progressive strength development, enables easy and rapid set to work.

With this solution, the project is speeding towards its goal: to be ready for opening later this year.
