HeidelbergCement has been in China since 1995 and operates five cement plants in two provinces (Guangdong, Shaanxi). The plants have a total cement capacity of around 10 million tones. Our Group-wide high environmental standards and targets are also applied to the Chinese operations. One example is the increased use of alternative fuels instead of fossil fuels such as coal or oil. The plants are furthermore front-runner in the application of waste heat power plants.

(Data as of January 2008) The market
HeidelbergCement maintains strong positions close to metropolitan regions in the South and North West of China. The cement plants are well-positioned in high population areas. They are technology leader in their markets. There are also 10 ready-mixed concrete plants in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
Total China accounts for more than 40 % of the world cement market. The provinces of Guangdong and Shaanxi, where our production sites are located, record above-average growth rates. This growth is driven by a supporting monetary policy of the government, low wages and high governmental fixed asset investment. The “Go West” Policy is further supporting this development in Shaanxi province.
