Kakanj cement plant was founded in 1978. In July 2000, as the pilot project of large-scale privatization, major stake of the plant was sold for 28 million EUR to German group HeidelbergCement, one of the world's largest building material producers that employs around 61,000 people. This world's giant committed itself to invest 49 million EUR to Kakanj Cement Plant and related business until 2010. Since that time Kakanj Cement has been climbing to success. By the end of 2008, more than 120 million BAM (61.4 million EUR) has been invested in the plant and related business, and in this way the privatization commitment is fulfilled long before the contract deadline. Annual production has been increasing year after year, and the environment protection standards are at the EU levels. In 2008, Kakanj Cement Plant achieved a record production in the amount of 770,000 tons of cement.
Technical standards and product quality have been cherished throughout the history of our company. Arrival of the strategic partner, German HeidelbergCement, created the condition for further intensive development, as well as for raising business standards to the European level. These standards are applied not only to the quality and volume of production, but also to the quality and content of life of workers in the plant and residents in the area.
Our products
Cement from the Kakanj Cement plant has been built in the foundations and pillars of industry and infrastructure, as well as in sport and housing facilities. It was used for hydro power plants Bočac, Salakovac, Mostar and Višegrad, and many objects built for XIV Olympic Games in Sarajevo in 1984.
Environment protection
Environment protection is an integral part of the strategic development of the Kakanj Cement. Aware of its specific location, the Kakanj Cement plant pays special attention to the environment protection. Our goal is to achieve a steady and sustainable development which is in accordance with the European norms. Installing the state-of-art technology, Kakanj Cement plant implements high environment standards. Today, the dust emissions do not exceed 10 mg/m3, which is much below the European limit of 50 mg/m3. In December 2003, the Kakanj Cement plant was awarded the ISO certificate 14001 for environment management, which proves that we are on the right path for building, developing and further improvement of the environment protection systems.

In 2006 Kakanj Cement implemented also OHSAS 18001, international standard for occupational health and safety.

Led by the principles of good neighbor relationships and by the wish to have good coexistence, we regularly support surrounding local communities, Kakanj Municipality, educational and cultural institutions, as well as local associations and non-governmental organizations.
Through expansion of our production program, we involve more entrepreneurs from local community into successful business chain.
