Environment protection
Kakanj Cement is aware of its responsibilities toward the environment and its local community. We are committed to comply with all relevant environmental legislation at local, cantonal, federal, and state levels and to continually improve environmental performance through appropriate initiatives, controls, provisions or resources and training of our employees. The goal is to minimize unfavourable impacts on the environment.
After the war 1992-1995 and prior to the privatization, the plant faced many environmental challenges. Although the plant was maintained well, the lack of possibility to invest produced many operational difficulties. The main problem was high dust emissions due to the outdated electrostatic precipitator used for dedusting.
After privatization, the levels of dust emissions from the Kakanj cement plant have been on a strong declining trend. In 2001, the plant succeeded in reducing emissions of dust by a significant degree in comparison with the previous year. Today after the modernisation they are below the level of 50 mg/m3 and below the levels permitted by government regulations. The lowering of dust emissions will continue through other investments in new technology.
