Ghacem Cement Foundation

The Ghacem Cement Foundation was launched in June 2002 to regulate the equitable donation of cement
to needy health clinics and educational institutions in deprived communities in the country.

Ghacem Cement Foundation has been in existence for the past eight years and is an important part of Ghacem’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme to assist deprived communities to improve their health and educational infrastructures or build new ones. This is our noble way of given back to the Ghanaian society.

In addition to this social gesture, it is a fact that Ghacem continues to contribute substantially to the economic development of Ghana and it is currently on record that Ghacem’s financial contributions to the government of Ghana as at end of 2009 in terms of direct and indirect taxes was Ghc58 million.

It is also worth mentioning that Ghana enjoys the lowest cement prices in the West-Africa Sub Region. Today, local limestone from our quarry in the eastern region constitutes about 25% of the content of every bag of Ghacem Super Rapid cement.

Ghacem is still actively searching for limestone of sufficient quality and quantity to invest in regional clinker production, thereby further reducing our dependence on import of expensive raw materials.

For a developing nation like Ghana, it is imperative to create wealth by adding value to local resources through development of local industries, thereby securing employment, improving technological skills and increasing the tax base of the country.

It is worth noting that since the establishment of the Cement Foundation some eight years ago, Ghacem has donated about 270,000 bags of cement at an equivalent market value of more than Ghc2, 700,000 to over 1,600 communities.

The executive council maintains that beneficiaries of the cement foundation use the cement for the intended purposes, but will not hesitate to take drastic action against any institution(s) found to abuse this noble objective. Such culprits will forever be blacklisted from this gesture from Ghacem if found culpable of abuse.

Ghacem would want to thank all Ghanaians, for appreciating its self-help initiatives and also count on your continuous support of its cherished end-users to always remain   “The Nation Builder” and indeed remain the leader in the Ghanaian cement business.
